| Richmond Street Names |
| In January 1881, the city passed an
ordinance changing the streets and avenues of Richmond, and those changes
are listed below. Main Street became the base for naming the streets running west to east. Its name was not changed. The Whitewater River became the base for the streets running north to south. |

| Fort Wayne Avenue retained its
name. Liberty Pike was changed to Liberty Avenue and ran from the
corner of 5th and South H to the corporation line. Garden Avenue
was the name given to a road running from the junction of Sixth and
South E Streets, southwesterly to Fifth Street.
North Park was changed to Park Place. Elm Street was changed to Elm Place. The alley called Smith Street, being used simply as an alley, had its name discontinued. In 1894, Williamsburg Avenue became Bridge Avenue. |
