Annals of Pioneers on the Whitewater and its Tributaries, in the Vicinity of Richmond, Ind., from 1804 to 1830 is a small booklet, written by John Macamy Wasson and published in 1875. Wasson was born in Wayne Township in 1810 and moved with his family to Richmond in 1829. He was a wagon maker for many years, and later served as Postmaster of Neill’s Station from 1857 to 1859, and of Chester from 1861 to 1864. He moved back to Richmond in 1870 and died in 1884.

Andrew W. Young, author of the first major local history, History of Wayne County, Indiana (1872), credited Wasson with some of the research in his own book. “He commenced, several years ago, the collection of materials for a History of Wayne County, and had gathered many facts relating to the early settlement of Wayne township, including the city of Richmond, some of which are embodied in this work. Although he did not proceed to the completion of the contemplated history, the project seems to have originated with him.” (p. 417)

With the exception of some pages of ads, the original work is 59 pages of solid text with no breaks between thoughts. In this version the editor has added headings to separate topics where possible and added a table of contents for these headings. All misspellings have been left uncorrected unless they interfered with clarity.
