The Biography Resource Center database in INSPIRE provides narrative biographies, thumbnail biographies, magazine articles and websites. These are full text sources from magazines and respected Reference works like the Dictionary of American Biography, Contemporary Authors, and the Encyclopedia of World Biography.

On the INSPIRE homepage

  • Click on "Search INSPIRE Databases"

  • Select "Biographies"

  • Under "other searches" select "biographical facts search"

  • Enter "Indiana" in the field for "birth place" and click search

Hoosier biographies:

The Indiana State Library has an online Indiana Biography Index. This site will provide you with a citation for an article but you will have to request a copy of the article through their Ask a Librarian service.

  • For books or periodicals published after 1990

Indiana Halls of Fame:

The Indiana Football Hall of Fame provides resumes on their inductees, who include coaches, players, physicians, sports writers, announcers, and others dedicated to Indiana Football.

The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame includes biographical information highlighting the achievements and careers, including pictures, for all male inductees dating back to 1962 and female inductees dating back to 2002. Inductees may have been players, coaches or other who have made unique contributions to the sport.

The Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame has information on its 91 inductees dating back to 1979. Inductees of the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame may have been pro-players, coach-managers for high school, college, or professional teams, contributors, or veterans.

The Indiana Golf Hall of Fame highlights players, teachers, administrators, or promoters who have made extraordinary contributions to the game.

The Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame provides pictures and biographical information on inductees.

Biography.com's Biography Search indexes over 25,000 biographies.

Infoplease provides a biography almanac with over 30,000 biographies.

A search for a specific person in a search engine like Yahoo! or Google will bring back a variety of pages with many different types of information.
