Free
Tax Preperation at MRL
Free
tax assistance is available at Morrisson-Reeves Library.
Tax counseling, form preparation, and electronic filing will
be available to local taxpayers with low to middle income, with special
attention to those 60 years of age or older.
Every Wednesday,
beginning the first week of February and
continuing through mid April, volunteers will
be available in the Bard Room to help individuals with their
taxes. This service is open
to the public and provided by AARP Tax-Aide volunteers. Assistance will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.
Couples who wish to file electronically should both be present
to sign their return. Individuals
with tax returns that are deemed to be too complicated will be referred
to a tax professional. State
and Federal tax forms are also available at MRL in Reference Services.
It
will be necessary to bring the following items in order to be properly
served:
- Social
Security cards and birth dates of all names listed on tax returns, including
dependents
- All W2’s,
1099’s, and other tax statements received for the tax year;
- Receipts
for deductions including tax receipts;
- Rent
receipts, name and address of landlord if claiming renter’s deduction
on Indiana State return
- Care
provider’s name, address, and identifying number if claiming deduction
for Child and Dependent Care expenses;
- Amount(s)
and date(s) of each payment of estimated taxes during the tax year;
